Painter of the Heavens

Psalm 19:1–6 The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words; their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth, and their utterances to the end of the world. In them He has placed a tent for the sun, which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber; it rejoices as a strong man to run his course. Its rising is from one end of the heavens, and its circuit to the other end of them; and there is nothing hidden from its heat.

All of creation declares that there is, indeed, a Creator and not only does He choose to reveal himself through glorious colors, shapes and lines, He also expresses himself in the movement, sounds and intricate designs of all He’s made. I marvel at the seasons and how they mirror the seasons of our lives! I take great delight in seeing the grand creativity displayed in our world.

This song explores the ways that we see and that we hear, stretching us to understand the ‘more’ that we are continually flooded by yet sometimes fail to take in. Our eyes naturally see, but can they also hear? For example, when you look at a picture, does it not speak to you? Our ears naturally hear, but can they also see? While listening to a song, do you sometimes get a picture in your mind’s eye that is inspired by the melody of the song? The things we see and the sound we hear communicate to us in many ways, despite the fact that we don’t always take note of it.

I’m convinced that God is always communicating with us, because he loves us so. So with the coming of each new sunrise, of course He is inviting us into His new mercies! I want to know Him more, don’t you?
